Possible father of great grandfather Robert Albin Abrahamson

Here is a thought...

My great x2 grandfather, Edvard Julius Abrahamson, made it known that he was the "adoptive" father of Robert Albin. Robert Albin's birth record states that Edvard Julius was his father. If EJ put his name on the certificate why would anyone, particularly Albin, ever have to know if he was the natural father or not? Why make a point of telling the family that?

Looking at the history of Charlotta, Albin's mother, I discovered that before Albin's birth she had delivered another son illegitimately. That boy unfortunately died at one year of age, the name of his father was never revealed. It occurred to me that perhaps Albin WAS the son of Edvard. Edvard, knowing Charlotta was with child married her and claimed the boy on the official record. If he later was told, or discovered, that Charlotta had previously born an illegitimate child...did he feel duped? Did he perhaps suspect/believe he was not the father and an older Charlotta (6 1/2 yr older) fooled the younger Edvard into marriage?

This is the Anders Gustaf Abrahamson family. In 1858 the family emigrated from Sweden, settling in Chautauqua, New York.  Anders is the older brother of  Edvard Julius. That means that he and Edvard Julius have the same Y DNA, given to them by their father Carl Abrahamson.  Look at all the boys who also will have that same Y DNA. I am going to begin research down each of those lines.

Boy, is this a long shot.

So many folks are jumping on that "spit in a tube and find out where you came from" bandwagon maybe one of this families descendants has also taken the test. A male descendant of one of the males in this photo. If Edvard was indeed the father of Albin that Y DNA MUST match the DNA of a male descendant of one of Albins sons. And that DNA we already have! Half way there. Well, actually I am nowhere close.

But it's worth a thought anyway.

January 2019 update - On paper I had connected with a 4th "cousin", whose great X2 grandfather was Anders Gustaf (above, the brother of my great X2 "grandfather" Edvard Julius). Over Christmas Ancestry.com offered half price DNA autosomal testing and I jumped on it knowing that she had tested with them. Unfortunately we did not match as being related. Although this is quite possible since our common ancestor would be a great X3 grandfather (enough removed that it was possible we shared no DNA), her siblings and cousins also did not match me. It is now official... Edvard Julius was correct in declaring he was the adoptive father of Robert Albin. The search goes on.

Who was the father of Robert Albin Abrahamson?

Talk about a "BRICK WALL" in Family History? A New Year's Resolution.

Not long ago, through DNA, it was confirmed that our great grandfather, Robert Albin Abrahamson was NOT one of the many many illegitimate children of Oscar II Bernadotte of Sweden. What a disappointment for all of us descendants of Albin! Albin's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren had repeatedly told and found great pleasure in our family "legend" for over 150 years. I think Albin himself most likely bought his mother's Charlotta's claim. Sounds a bit crazy now but yeah, we truly believed the family legend you can read HERE. Well, I guess I am now over the disappointment (pretty much anyway) and my New Years family history resolution is to attempt to..

BREAK DOWN THAT "BRICK WALL"
AND FIND GREAT GRANDPA ALBIN'S FATHER

Okay, so I have no clue (yet, but I will) how I am going to do this or where or how to even begin my research. See the above photo of Great Grandpa Albin? He looks like a determined, stick to it, never say die sort of a fellow doesn't he? Maybe he is the ancestor I inherited that from.
