In the early 20th century my paternal grandparents, Richard Kallman and Lydia Abrahamson, immigrated from Sweden, coming to a new life in Chicago. I've been researching my family for over twenty five years. In this blog I will share the family history, photos, documents and stories that I have collected, along with my memories of growing up Scandinavian-American in Chicago. Welcome to My Swedish-Chicago Heritage!

If you don't believe in the stork delivering babies you may have to reconsider after this:
The Abrahamsson family moved to their newbuilt home at Aveholm in 1915. Although storks were spotted other places, none were seen at Aveholm. Not until the morning of July 18, 1917. That morning a stork was spotted on the roof of the barn and in the house a new baby was crying. She was given the name Margareta.
The stork never again appeared at Aveholm. Margareta was the last and youngest child in the family.
