Evelyn Soderstrom Eckberg passed in March. I am sorry I did not get back to my blog earlier to note the passing of this remarkable woman. She was the last of my Dad's cousins. She told me she was the last, somewhat of a surprise, baby in her family. She shared with me that her mother described her as "the last crumbs of a tasty cake".
My grandmother Lydia and her two sisters, Anna and Ruth were the only siblings of the Abrahamson family to leave Sweden for life in America. As I got into genealogy, I had a few connections in my grandmother's sister Anna Jacobson's family but Evelyn was the first I met in my grandmother's sister Ruth Soderstrom's family. What a delight it was to meet her! She had also been a nurse as I had been. She generously shared her recollections and family photos with me, introducing me to the Andrew and Ruth Soderstrom family of Moline, Illinois.
