52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - #19 "Bald" - Only the Norwegians?

Prompt #19 (May 7-May 13): "Bald" - Only the Norwegians?

Do I have males in my family sporting the "horseshoe haircut"? Absolutely! My younger brother does. It is a common misconception that baldness is carried through the mother's genes. Science says this is untrue and the gene is carried and passed by both mothers and fathers. The type of hair loss that is passed down to individuals through genetics is known as androgenetic alopecia, more commonly known as male/female pattern baldness.

I don't know about that though.

This blog is about my paternal ancestry, the Swedish part of me. I cannot think of one male relative on my Dad's side, close or remote, that was bald! However, my maternal Norwegian ancestry?

This is my great grandfather Nils of Telemark Norway.

.

My uncles Rolf and Oddvar.

There are many more "horseshoe haircuts" on my Norwegian side but like my brother they were hesitant to have their photo taken without the requisite baseball cap! I believe my brother has to put the blame on my Norwegian Mom.

Bald and Proud were my Norwegian ancestors.
The Swedes, also proud but not so bald.

From Amy Johnson Crow, a genealogist, far more experienced then I. "The data that we've accumulated in our genealogy software and in our binders and folders doesn't do a whole lot of good just sitting there. We need to do something with it." Each week she sends out a prompt to share a bit about an ancestor, collateral relative, or family friend.
