Certificate of Arrival in the United States - my grandmother, Lydia Abrahamson

One of the first steps in Naturalization is to prove your legal entry into the U.S. by a "Certificate of Arrival".

April 2, 1930 my grandmother, Lydia Abrahamson Kallman, received this "Certificate of Arrival" from the commissioner of immigration. Her port of entry was Boston, Massachusetts on February 4, 1909. She came on the ship Ivernia (my grandfather Richard arrived on the same ship 2 years earlier) traveling 2nd class.

Many assume that immigration came only through Ellis Island, New York. It is true the majority of European immigration came through Ellis Island but they also came in through other ports such as Baltimore, Boston, Philadelphia, Charleston and New Orleans.
