52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - #5 - "Oops" - Sarona Rebecka Källman

Prompt #5 (Jan 29-Feb 4): "Oops" - Sarona Rebecka Källman

My great Aunt Sarona, my grandfather's sister, was born Dec 11, 1878. Her parents were not married. "Oops". My Mom used to say that 2nd babies and on take nine months but the first can come anytime. Back in the day, just like now, young couples often found themselves to be expectant parents. The parents married before the birth and no one thought ill of it. They did the "right" thing. When Sarona was born however her parents had not yet married. Her birth register names her as "oakta" or illegitimate and only her mothers name is mentioned. After her birth her mother returned to her parents home. ???? Her baptismal record does however name both her mother and father. My great grandparents, Carl and Clara, married 6 months after her birth. Did Carl finally man up and admit to fatherhood? Did Clara have second thoughts about marriage? We'll never know but the young couple stayed together and produced five more children, among them my grandfather Richard.

From Amy Johnson Crow, a genealogist, far more experienced then I. "The data that we've accumulated in our genealogy software and in our binders and folders doesn't do a whole lot of good just sitting there. We need to do something with it." Each week she sends out a prompt to share a bit about an ancestor, collateral relative, or family friend.
